Questions about prototyping, files and pricing

The things people usually ask before they send a brief.

How does pricing work?

There are three ways to work. Hourly work, at $35 per hour, suits modeling, development, technical adjustments and jobs whose scope may change. A fixed-price project gets a custom quote after I review the requirements, scope and deliverables. Service packages are set up for specific services, such as 3D modeling, 3D printing and prototyping, and priced from the requirements and deliverables. Send a brief and I will tell you which one fits.

How long does it take?

As estimates: 3 to 7 days to print from a customer-provided, ready-to-print file, and 7 to 15 days for 3D modeling plus printing. Projects with several parts or successive adjustments are timed after I review them. The quote confirms the timing for your project, and shipping time is separate.

Which materials do you print in?

PLA, PETG, ABS and TPU, depending on what the part has to do.

How big can a part be?

The nominal build volume is 200 × 200 × 200 mm. The practical dimensions can vary with the geometry and orientation of the part. For a larger or heavy part, send the size and what it has to carry.

What files can I send?

Sketches, drawings and photos, or files such as STL, 3MF, STEP and OBJ. If you do not have a 3D model yet, I can model the part from a sketch, photos or measurements.

Do I get the editable files?

Editable source files and the other deliverables are provided according to the scope of the project. The exact files and formats are agreed before work begins. You keep control of your own project and receive the files defined in the scope.

Can the part be adjusted after the first print?

Adjustments can be evaluated and made according to the project requirements and the conditions we agree. Revision terms are set in each project agreement.

Is my project confidential?

Yes. I handle client projects confidentially.

Where do you work?

I am based in Massachusetts and work with clients throughout the state. Modeling and design are done online, and digital files are delivered online. Physical parts are shipped, with the method set in the quote, and local pickup is not offered. See the service area.

Can we meet in person?

Yes. In-person meetings and project visits are available across Massachusetts. I check availability and distance first, and the cost of a visit is quoted from them.

How fast do you reply?

I aim to reply within 24 hours, with questions or the next steps.
